A Different Welcome

Christians live in an interesting tension. We recognize this world is not our home, that we are citizens of a heavenly Kingdom. At the same time, we have a mailing address, a place of business, a school, and lots of people we love who live in this world.

In the book of Revelation, John sees a vision of what God is ultimately doing: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.”

This is the heart of Christian hope: God is redeeming this world and transforming it into a Kingdom of Peace.

In the meantime, Peter reminds the church that they are called to extend a different kind of welcome. This welcome is not dependent on anyone’s qualifications or wealth, but is an open invitation to be a part of what God is doing to redeem the world.
